Assignment: “Copy [the quote] that resonates with you and write your thoughts about it. How does it make you feel? What do you think it means?”

The quote I chose: “If you do not tell the truth about yourself, you cannot tell it about other people.” -Virginia Woolf

This quote resonates with me because I can imply the meaning to my everyday life, as I believe it means that if you cannot be honest with yourself about who you are, even if it can possibly shine you in a negative light, you cannot be honest with others, nor can you see or tell the truth about others.

Honesty is a necessity in life, but honesty with oneself is the most important type of honesty, though it is difficult as no one wants to admit they are in the wrong. Once you learn to always be honest with yourself though, you can surround yourself with trustworthy people while also being trustworthy yourself.

This quote doesn’t make me feel any specific emotion, but I do want to attempt to live by what I believe the quote means.
